Recap / Daybreak 2019 S 1 E 5 Homecoming Redux Or My So Called Stunt Double Life

Go To

Narrated by The RZA, Wesley reflects on his life and the events that lead him to seek redemption, both before and after the apocalypse. Meanwhile, the kids rescued from Baron Triumph plan "Homecoming Redux," to celebrate their freedom and lack of deadness, while Angelica tries to arrange Meet Cute between Josh and KJ, since they "have so much in common." Just not, you know, a language.

This episode contains examples of:

  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode is focused primarily on Wesley.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with the proto-Daybreakers surrounding the Jocks, and Wesley and Turbo squaring off, glaring at each other with murderous fury. The RZA notes that he told us this story does not end well. . . but that's Another Story for Another Time.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: The episode ends on a Japanese cover of the Backstreet Boys song, "I Want It That Way."
  • Interactive Narrator: The RZA is narrating the events of Wesley's life for the viewer. Though at one point, he calls Wesley out for his self-delusion, and Wesley responds angrily that his own narration is giving him a What the Hell, Hero?
  • Once More, with Clarity: An immediate version. After Turbo and the Jocks ambush the Homecoming, turn off the lights and smash the crap out of everyone, they turn the lights back on and find they'd only been hitting mannequins. The episode then rewinds to explain that enough time passed between Wesley spilling the beans and the Jocks' attack for the proto-Daybreakers to set up a surprise for them.
