Recap / Dave The Barbarian Episode 28 Floral Derangement

Go To

Tired of Fang constantly interfering in his life, Dave (on a suggestion from Candy) threatens to send his younger sister to an all-girls etiquette school called "Miss Bluelung's School for Very Cute Little Girls."

Obviously not wanting to be sent away to a place like Miss Bluelung's, Fang promises to stop interfering in her older brother's life, but she soon breaks her promise: after seeing Dave getting his prized Purple Winkies ready for an upcoming flower show, she swipes some "magic growth gravel" from their uncle's magic supplies to make the flowers grow faster.

While the gravel succeeds in making Dave's flowers grow faster, they grow much faster (and larger) than Fang expected, which she struggles to conceal from her older brother. But when the flowers uproot the castle and become ravenous (even chasing Candy and Oswidge around, as they were still in the castle), Fang comes clean to Dave about what she did so they can save their older sister and their uncle.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Accidental Truth: To prevent Dave from finding out about she did to his plants, Fang claims there's a poetry reading in town, with Dave excitedly running off to participate. When Fang realizes she needs his help and goes to look for him, the narrator reveals that, by uncanny coincidence, there was a poetry reading in town, which is where Fang Dave.
  • Baldness Angst: When Fang finally confesses that she made the flowers grow by putting Uncle Oswidge's magic gravel on them, Oswidge, amazed that the gravel works so well, immediately starts rubbing it on his scalp.
Oswidge: Come on, hair! Come on!
  • Excalibur in the Rust: Lula claims in this episode that she's "about as sharp as a bowling ball."
  • Fun with Homophones: When Dave's Purple Winkies gain the ability to talk, they keep saying what Fang (and Dave) think is "meat," which makes them think that they want to eat the Udrogothian Royal Family. But after seeing their older sister and their uncle having a little tea party with the flowers (named "Margot" and "Terrence"), it turns out that the plants were actually saying "meet," which they explain is because they wanted to meet and get to know the royal family.
