Not running anymore.

During a football match, the Grimsborough Quails' star quarterback, Troy Takiguchi, drops dead during the game.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Murder: Franklin Caldwell, the Grimsborough Quails' coach, only wanted to give Troy a boost before the game, so he added Erythropoietin to his insulin shot without him knowing. Unfortunately, he didn't know that doping hormones and insulin don't mix well, and Troy ended up dying from a blood clot mid-game. Due to this, Judge Hall only gives him a four-year sentence and a removal of his teaching license.
  • Alliterative Name: Troy Takiguchi.
  • All Guys Want Cheerleaders: Troy was dating Madison Springer, leader of the Quails' cheerleaders, and Chad Baker seems pretty interested in her too.
  • Awesome by Analysis: How Nathan finds out the traces of sports drink left in the tainted insulin syringe were left by Troy's killer and not Troy himself.
Jones: Wait, how do we know those were left by the killer and not by Troy?
Nathan: I'm glad you asked. The traces were left on the underside of the plunger's tip. The killer would have pulled it with his fingers to withdraw the EPO from the vial.
Your victim, on the other hand, would only need to push the TOP of the plunger to inject himself with the syringe's contents.
Jones: Whoa that's... pretty clever, Nathan.
  • Call-Back: Madison Springer returns as a suspect.
  • Frame-Up: Franklin tried to frame Karimah Breen, the school's nurse, by putting the vial of Erythropoietin that killed Troy inside the infirmary's fridge. He even brings up her criminal record to you, saying that she was once arrested for providing doping drugs to students.
  • Innocently Insensitive: After Jones says he doesn't understand Madison's frat-party metaphors, she asks if he wasn't a popular kid in college.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Grace lampshades that despite being a pathologist you almost never send her DNA samples.
  • Never My Fault: According to Madison, Troy got mad at her when she tried to leave him after Madison discovered he was cheating on her.
  • Pulled from Your Day Off: You discover the body during your day off watching a football game.
  • The Quarterback: What the victim was for the Grimsborough Quails. After his death, Chad Baker success him.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The Troy's Dorm Room and Bunk Beds scenes have a poster on the wall, depicting an Asian man in a Bruce Lee pose (though the man in the poster is wearing a jacket and has a beard).
    • Also in Troy's Dorm Room is a pixel art resembling a Space Invader.
    • In the Exam Table scene, one of the hidden items is Jason's mask.
    • There is reference to a chicken restaurant called LOL, which is a clear parody of KFC.
  • Skewed Priorities:
    • Franklin Caldwell, the Grimsborough Quails' coach, seems more concerned about losing the football season than one of his players dying.
    • Madison Springer (who was Troy's girlfriend, mind you) also seems more concerned about being dateless for prom night than Troy being dead.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: A non-villainous example; nurse Karimah Breen used to provide the students with steroids and other drugs so they wouldn't buy shady, potential dangerous stuff in the black market, but stopped after she was found out and almost lost her job.
  • Worthy Opponent: Thomas Boedeker, the quarterback of the Wippeka Armadillos, lists this as one of the reason why he wouldn't kill Troy.
Thomas: Listen man, I had respect for Takiguchi, he was my only equal. Killing him... where would be the glory in that?!
