Craig's Granddad tells him about cicada swarms in Maryland, and how he collects the shells every swarm. Craig's determination to get his granddad a cicada shell causes him, Kelsey and J.P. to become trapped in their stump.
Tropes:
- Bug Catching: Craig catches a cicada so he can give its husk to his grandfather for his collection.
- Cicadian Rhythm: The episode revolves around the 17-year cicada brood.
- Continuity Nod: Jason takes the Rideable toy car that the Sewer Queen gave Kelsey in Lost in the Sewers.
- Food as Bribe: J.P. writes on the message that ice-cream will be given to the first five rescuers. Jason arrives first, but he only came for the free ice-cream, and abandons the trio after finding out there was none.
- Karma Houdini: Despite stealing the main trio’s stuff and refusing to help them in their time of need, Jason gets off scott-free.
- Locked in a Room: Craig, Kelsey and J.P. hide in their stump to avoid the cicadas and are unable to leave due the swarming outside.
- Message in a Bottle: The stump actually has a system for sending message bottles into the creek. Craig uses it to send for help in being rescued from the cicadas.
- Shown Their Work: The art on the cicadas is pretty phenomenal. For instance, any shot with a cicada husk shows that it’s slightly transparent.
