- Pride: A sympathetic take on this trope. In the present day, Carrie is questioned as to why she didn't come forward with how Jim attacked her. She could've turned him in any time. She points out that first, she would've faced repercussions from telling her parents she got into such trouble. Second, Jim made a scathing insult too harsh to repeat. At the time, she felt reporting him would've only served to add insult to injury.
