Recap / Code Geass: Paladins of Voltron, Chapter 34 "The Royal Declaration"

Go To

The Paladins plan out their next moves, but so do their enemies.

  • Breather Episode: After the emotional intensity of the last chapter, this one takes a moment to let things cool down. The final scene, however, brings back the drama.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Rivalz isn't the smartest of the paladins (though by no means dumb), but his suggestion to use Balmerra crystals to fuel the Black Knights' new spaceflight capable Knightmares is noted to be a perfectly valid solution to their fuel problems.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: The vision that Haggar shows to Charles that manages to break his spirit? All of his children on pikes, apparently due to his own actions.
  • Internal Reveal: Euphemia finally learns about the Galra, which she then passes on to Cornelia and Nonette.
  • No One Gets Left Behind: Gino is still angry that Nonette was caught in the Hadron Cannons' fire, now compounded by how she was (accidentally) kidnapped by Rai.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: The Black Knights pointedly note that they won't be able to use their new space-based Knightmares for extended periods because they don't have enough fuel for lengthy operations. Rivalz promptly asks why they can't use Balmerra crystals, which have extreme energy efficiency, as a new fuel source. Coran, Shirley, Nunnally, and Rakshata all promptly go to the Balmerra to gather samples and see if this could work.
  • Spotting the Thread: Schneizel figures out that Haggar must be dangerous because Lelouch as Zero immediately tried to attack her, then fled when it was apparent she was not incapacitated in any way.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: The ultimate challenge that the Black Knights have for creating a space-based Knightmare? Fuel consumption - Bottomless Fuel Tanks was not in effect for Code Geass, and it's still a problem here, but even more so, as spacecraft need fuel not only for accelerating but also for deceleration and maneuvering in all three directions.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Anya notes that despite the Lions being more advanced than Britannia’s Knightmare Frames, the Knights of Round were able to fight them to a standstill, leading her to correctly assume that the Paladins are still rookie pilots.
  • Wham Shot: Just as the chapter ends, Haggar finds Charles and Victor and, after forcing them to submit to her powers, offers them a deal...
