Tropes:

  • Acquired Poison Immunity: Fugu, as Tom explains, has an immunity to the neurotoxin it produces. Chris approves, calling its digestive system "hardcore".
  • Ask a Stupid Question...: Tom asks the group how you could get poisoned by Fugu? Matt's response?:
    Matt: Eating the poison..."
    Chris: He's good! He's good!"
    Gary: The mans sharp..."
  • Call-Back: Tom mentions that they had talked about condiments on toast before, which throws back to the first series, which had them all talk about odd spreads for toast.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Gary relays a story about him and a friend visiting a Yorkshire Day party, and his friend got handed some mucky fat on bread, and exclaimed "Oh, Pâté!". Gary then said what it was to their friend that it was actually mucky fat (beef dripping).
  • Oh, Crap!: Gary and Chris are not pleased to learn that Fugu has poisonous eyes:
    Chris: That's a bit dark..."
  • File Mixup: A food variation. Gary proposes a situation of identifying a fugu fish:
    Gary: Cod...Death Cod!"
    *everyone laughs*
    Gary: Now remember I put the death cod on the left and not on the right! Remember, right for the death cod, left for the good cod. Right, left...remember that! Right, good! Oh S**t!"
    Matt: ...And they're in the same type of pan!"
  • Separated by a Common Language: Tom mentions that people from outside the UK (or really, anyone not from Yorkshire) are googling "mucky fat" (salty meat residue).
  • Shout-Out: Chris mentions that he only knows about Fugu because of he saw it in an episode of The Simpsons. Tom and the rest laugh at this, as they point out that everyone at home likely has a similar trail of thought:
    Gary: The thing is, so many people sat there watching are going "Fugu...Simpsons!"
