Go To

Some people want to be heroes and others have to be asked. So, Chuck, are you ready?
Sarah

Chuck is getting used to having spies in his life, one in the Buy More chasing down shoplifters, and the other posing as his girlfriend. Sarah has started working at a nearby Weinerlicious so she can keep an eye on the Buy More, and suggests they go out. The "date" is actually a meet with a government doctor, Zarnow, who runs a number of tests on Chuck to see if the secret files can be pulled out of his head.

They set up an area in the Buy More home theater room to conduct the test which is showing Chuck a bunch of pictures until...

**FLASH**

...he starts spilling all the secrets that are locked in his head. Zarnow is impressed, but isn't allowed to see Chuck. Later that night, as he's driving away, Zarnow's car explodes. The next day, Casey and Sarah are both investigating, and naturally, suspect each other of having set the bomb.

They both tell Chuck not to trust the other, which only makes Chuck nervous, especially with Sarah coming over for dinner. In the meantime, Casey lures Chuck away from the Buy More by calling in a computer issue and tracks him down. Their meeting is interrupted when a bomb similar to the one that destroyed Zarnow's car goes off, but they both get away, convined Sarah just tried to kill them. And Chuck is bringing her to meet the family.

At dinner, Chuck is tries everything he can to keep people from eating in case Sarah put poison in it, and Casey decides to crash the party sice he moved in to one of the other apartments in their building, bringing some quiche. Sarah eventually gets tired of their antics and confronts Chuck about his suspicions, and realizes that the killer is still out there. She runs off to check something, but is kidnapped right outside by none other than an alive and well Zarnow.

Fortunately, Casey put a Tracking Device in his quiche, but it leads them to Morgan instead. Casey doesn't think there's anything to do now, but Chuck is not about to let a beautiful blonde pretend girlfriend get taken away because of something he did. He asks Casey what he would do with her if he had her and from that they figure she'd be taken to a helipad nearby.

They stop outside a warehouse beside it, and Casey goes in, but Chuck sees Zarnow leave and decides to go get Sarah himself. Before they can get away, Zarnow stops them...

**FLASH**

...and Chuck finds out he's been selling secrets to North Korea. He also inadvertently tells Zarnow he's the Intersect. Zarnow shoots him with a dart gun and hauls him out just as a helicopter arrives and begins to make his escape, but Chuck wakes up, since the dart didn't completely get him through his pocket protector, and starts fighting with Zarnow, managing to knock him out...and the pilot.

Now he's stuck up there in an out-of-control chopper as Casey and Sarah call his cell and try to talk him down. Against all odds, he manages to land the thing and they come up and demand to know what he was thinking putting himself in danger like that.

The next day, Sarah goes to Bryce's funeral, and Casey discusses the future of the Intersect with General Diane Beckman. A new Intersect is being built, after which Chuck will no longer be needed...

Trope Flash:

  • Always Save the Girl: Chuck's attitude when Sarah's captured.
  • Captain Obvious:
Chuck: Casey, he's got Sarah. We've got to save her.
    Casey: Brilliant deduction, Nancy Drew.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Subverted. Chuck tries to repeat Morgan's failed attempt to pull a tablecloth out from under a stack of stuff and manages to pull it off perfectly.
  • Crash Course Landing: Chuck is forced to have to land the helicopter he's on after the pilot gets knocked out. He succeeds, albeit with Sarah's help via cellphone.
  • Enter Stage Window: Morgan does this to get into Chuck's house, much to Ellie's annoyance.
Ellie: How did you get in here?
Morgan: Chuck's window, or as I like to call it, the 'Morgan Door'.
  • Falling into the Cockpit: The climax of the episode has Chuck being forced to pilot a Helicopter, with Sarah and Casey giving guidance via a cellphone. Interestingly, when Casey first tries to guide him through using technical terms, Chuck is completely lost. Then Sarah steps in and tells him to pretend it's a video game and he succeeds.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: The show starts with Casey chasing down and nearly beating up... a shoplifter.
  • I Know Mortal Kombat: Chuck flying the helicopter is half-knowledge of an Apache chopper game and half Sarah convincing him that that's the best way to think about it.
  • Improbable Piloting Skills: Chuck manages to fly the chopper with nothing more than coaching from Sarah and remembering an Apache helicopter video game.
  • Pocket Protector: When Zarnow shoots Chuck with his dart gun, Chuck's saved by the dart just happening to hit his picket protector.
  • Shout-Out:
    • When Chuck is looking at Intersect images for Dr. Zarnow, one of the images is an airplane that Chuck identifies as Oceanic Flight 815, which is the plane that crashed on the island in Lost.
    • Casey sarcastically calls Chuck Nancy Drew after a Captain Obvious moment.
  • Tracking Device: Casey puts them in his quiche.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Chuck gets this from both Sarah and Casey for putting himself and the Intersect in danger.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: This is Beckman's implication once the new Intersect is up.
