"Woody Interruptus" is the twelfth episode of the ninth season of Cheers.

Kelly's back! Mr. Gaines sent his daughter off to study in France (in "Loverboyd") in the hopes of getting her away from Woody, but it didn't work, as Kelly is back a year later, and she and Woody have a joyful reunion.

Or maybe it did work, as Kelly has brought back a friend, Henri (Anthony Cistaro). Kelly the idiot thinks that Henri is just a nice guy, but Henri tells Woody, plainly and openly, that he's going to steal Kelly away.

In the B-plot, Cliff has another crackpot hobby. Namely, he's paid to have his head—and only his head—cryogenically frozen after he dies.

First appearance by Anthony Cistaro as Henri, who would be a thorn in Woody's side over the next two seasons.

Tropes:

  • Brain in a Jar: Well, of course Cliff is going to get his head cryogenically frozen.
  • Captain Oblivious: Somehow, Kelly fails to pick up on how much Henri wants to have sex with her.
  • French Jerk: Henri really is rude and obnoxious, hitting Woody up for $40 for cab fare before saying that he's going to steal Woody's girlfriend.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: In-Universe, Discussed Trope. Carla says that the French have no sense of humor, and offers as proof how much they love Jerry Lewis. Woody and Sam fail to get her point.
  • Love Triangle: The beginning of a story arc in Seasons 9 and 10 where Henri kept trying to steal Kelly away from Woody.
  • Plot Hole: How did Carla know where Woody and Kelly went? The city of Boston has more than one hotel, right?
  • Smithical Marriage: Woody and Kelly check into the hotel as Mr. and Mrs. Malone.
