Beckett meets Demming, a fellow detective. The Victim of the Week is a former thief who has been tortured to death.
- Faking the Dead: Esposito's partner faked his death and has been in hiding for years.
- Felony Misdemeanor: Castle bets that Demming does things like subscribe to The New Yorker without reading it, just leaving it out for people to see. Also, sexting.
- Foreshadowing: Esposito says that Holliwell, the IA cop after Ike, seemed disappointed that Esposito passed the polygraph. Holliwell is the cop on Racine's payroll.
- Friendship Moment: "Ike, this is my partner, Ryan, and this is my other partner, Castle."
- Honorary Uncle: Ike's son greets Esposito as "Uncle Javi!".
- I Need a Freaking Drink: Montgomery may be understanding, but his team going so wild this episode makes him look longingly at his wet bar.
- It's Personal: The victim of the week links to a mobster that Esposito went after back in the day, the mobster that killed his partner.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Montgomery is a little exasperated by the Cowboy Cop shenanigans that went down, but he's willing to help the team spin the story.
- Romantic False Lead: Demming shows up long enough to derail the Casket ship.
