After a high-speed chase that ends with an accident and a partially destroyed chemical plant, Ponch, John, and a few of the CHPs have to escort some tanker trucks filled with lethal chlorine gas to a facility in another city 140 miles away.
The team encounters an accident that has a tiger running loose in a convenience store/butcher shop and protesters that won't allow the trucks to roll through peacefully.
Things get worse when the road ahead has debris and boulders from a previous storm, and gets heated when Robbie, fellow truck driver and daughter of the owner, gets overcome by chlorine fumes when the valve on her tank truck starts leaking...
Tropes seen in this episode:
- Race Against the Clock: When you have tank trucks loaded with hazardous chlorine gas that will explode when the heat gets too much for it, and the air circulating over as the truck rolls down the highway cooling it can buy you some time, yes, it does become this.
- Ungrateful Bastard / What the Hell, Hero?: The shop owner when Ponch and John use sirloin steak fillets to trap the tiger in the back area room after saving his wife.Shop Owner (grumbling disparagingly to them): Were you born with a silver spoon in your mouth? Had to throw fillets and top sirloins. You couldn't throw pigs' knuckles, no? Couldn't throw a couple of hot dogs, no?
- Let's point out that he's a Dirty Coward for abandoning his wife when he saw the tiger go into the shop.
- This also falls under Complaining About Rescues They Don't Like.
- Waving Signs Around: The chemical trucks grind to a halt when the entire town protests the trucks rolling through, worried that something that was Ripped from the Headlines would happen in their town.
