"What is it truly, to admire a woman? To look at her and feel inspiration. To delight in her beauty. So much so that all your defenses crumble, that you would willingly take on any pain, any burden for her. To honor her being with your deeds and words."
Benedict

Anthony reaffirms his desire to woo Edwina, but Kate has come up with a list of acceptable suitors that excludes him. The characters attend a horse race where Edwina is accompanied by Lord Lumley. Not to be deterred, Anthony maneuvers his way into sitting with the Sharma sisters, where he and Kate spiritedly bet on the competitors. After Kate realizes his manipulations, she tries to speak against him to Edwina, but Edwina disagrees.

Lady Danbury hosts a soiree for Edwina's suitors, who entertain the attending ladies with their talents. Anthony initially intends to pass off a poem of Benedict's as his own, but decides to promise Edwina that he will be a true husband instead.

Meanwhile, Philippa is married and her dowry settled. Portia begins to worry that Jack will marry and oust them from the estate. Eloise and the Queen continue to seek Lady Whistledown's identity. Eloise is handed a pamphlet about women's rights from a printer, Theo, which she begins to read.

Tropes:

  • Gift-Giving Gaffe: In an attempt to woo her Anthony gifts Edwina a horse, assuming from a prior comment that she was a keen rider. She politely tells him that she prefers lap pets, and the horse she said she loved was from a novel. It's another hint that Anthony and Edwina don't have as much of a connection as he wants them to have, and that he actually understands Kate better — she's the Sharma sister who rides.
  • Right on Queue: Anthony finds himself at the back of a long line of gentleman callers for Edwina, to his chagrin.
  • Snooty Sports: Viscount Bridgerton and his younger brothers spend an afternoon fencing.
