Hikari says goodbye to the Brave Witches and leaves on a train with Eila and Sanya to her new home in Suomus. The details of Operation Freyja are revealed. A large 800mm railway gun ("Gustav") will fire an experimental HE shell to disappate the cloud surrounding Grigori, as armed forces from Karlsland, Britannia, and Fuso deal with the smaller Neuroi. Takami will then locate the core, and a second railway gun ("Dora") will fire an AP round at the core destroying the Neuroi. The first part of the plan succeeds, but Dora is damaged before it can fire. With it taking 20 minutes to reload Gustav with an AP shell, Takami leads the Brave Witches to physically carry a shell and use magic to propel it into the core. This seemingly works at first, but the Neuroi soon reforms and Takami can see that the outer core was masking a moving inner core. When the outer core finishes reforming, Takami can no longer see the inner core and resolves to use Absolute Eye. Hikari, Sanya, and Eila are listening to the battle on radio and this causes Hikari to leap off the train and run towards the battlefield.
