Go To

A 15-year-old Jane Doe, deaf and unable to vocally communicate, is investigated for a potential murder after being discovered covered in blood. Meanwhile, Hodgins is unaware of details regarding Angela's pregnancy, because Angela has kept them from him.

Tropes

  • Asshole Victim: The friend of an abuser grabs the teen running away from the abuser and tries to tie her up. He had it coming.
  • Children Forced to Kill: This episode sees a disabled child taken from her parents, abused for most of her life, and forced to kill someone in self defense during her escape.
  • Foreshadowing: Booth and Bones talk about what to get Angela and Jack for the baby. Booth makes a comment about Brennan’s hormones going haywire and “boom, Mama Bones”. This was just two episodes before her pregnancy reveal.
  • Sherlock Scan: Brennan is able to determine that Amy's parents aren't her biological parents just by squeezing their noses to confirm they don't have the genetic traits that caused Amy's deafness.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Hitting your wife to keep her quiet about your crimes right in front of two FBI agents is quite possibly one of the stupidest things anyone could do, as Mike Shenfield finds out the hard way from Booth.
  • Troubled Teen: The whole concept; a toddler is abducted and violently abused well into her teenage years until she's fortunate enough to find people who not only believe her story, but can prove that she's been violently beaten.
  • Wham Line: "Amy is not their daughter."
