The death of a priest is but the latest chapter in the ever-evolving Gormogon case when the victim's kneecaps are discovered to have been surgically removed. Furthermore, a pattern among the victims is discovered thanks to a victim tree discovered in the evidence vault. The team attempts to make predictions on who the next victim is while Dr. Sweets provides psychological insights into the killer for Brennan and Booth. Meanwhile, Brennan's brother reappears.

- Bad "Bad Acting": Bones, trying to trick Gormogon into thinking they're transporting his artwork. He's clever enough to realize it, and takes advantage of the situation.
- Comically Missing the Point: Brennan tells Caroline that Booth lied in his report about how he apprehended Russ. Caroline, an ADA, declares loudly that she "didn't hear that". Brennan repeats it in a louder voice.
- Damned by Faint Praise: Russ is not reassured by his sister telling him that at least he hasn't committed murder.
- Finger in the Mail: The Bishop's kneecaps.
- Nightmare Fetishist: Sweets pops into the Jeffersonian to discuss the Gormogon. The team is somewhat disturbed by how enthusiastic he is. We later find out that in his youth he was a fan of both Black and Death Metal and still has the clothes — or lack thereof — to go incognito at a concert.
