Bone: Treasure Hunters is the eighth volume of Bone, consisting of issues-44-49. It is the second book in the Harvest Trilogy.

Summary

The gang has reached Atheia, former capital of the Valley's kingdom. Gran'ma Ben hopes to find allies to fight the Hooded One's forces, but the city has been taken control by Tarsil, who has outlawed dragon lore and those that follow it. Thorn wishes to learn more about the Crown of Horns that might be the key to defeating the Lord of the Locust, while Phoney connives of a way to swipe Atheia's treasure.

This volume has examples of

  • Bee Afraid: The Bones briefly get into an altercation with a bee in the marketplace (Remember, Valley bees are as big as Fone Bone). Then, a whole swarm of bees attack the market to get the water.
Bee: Fill your hands with swords! We're gonna tear you a new stamen an' pistil!
  • Calling the Old Man Out: When the master of Atheia's dreaming lore continues to belittle and be dismissive of Thorn, Fone Bone steps in to tell him off and Gran'ma Ben for cowtowing to him.
  • Darkest Hour: The volume ends on one doozy of a Cliffhanger; Thorn and the Bones are arrested, and Briar's army has just arrived to lay siege on the city.
  • Double-Meaning Title: "Treasure Hunters" doesn't just refer to Phoney search for the kingdom's treasury- it also suggest Thorn's interest in the Crown Of Horns.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Early in the book, Phoney and Fone Bone learn that Tarsil has begun rationing the water and locked the well. After hearing that Tarsil has hidden Atheia's treasury somewhere, he realizes that it must in the well- only surface water was ruined by the Ghost Circles, while anything underground was safe.
