Recap / Bluey TV Shop

Go To

Bandit picks Bluey and Bingo up from school and tells them they have to stop at the chemist on the way home. Bluey and Bingo can't remember what a chemist sells, and when Bandit reminds them it's medicine, they ask if anyone is sick, hoping they might get to eat bum worm chocolate. Bandit assures them that no one is sick, but Bluey points out that he's wrong: Coco had to go home sick at lunch. Bandit actually wants to pick up some vitamins, since raising kids sometimes makes him feel like an old man. As he notes, it sometimes makes him feel like a young man too, which the kids don't understand.

When they arrive at the store, Bluey and Bingo are delighted to see that the store has a closed-circuit television system allowing them to see different parts of it. Winton and his dad are in the deodorant section, the Terriers are waiting for their mum to choose a lipstick in the beauty section, and Coco and her mum are at the counter waiting for a prescription. Winton and the Terriers see Bluey and Bingo, and they all enthusiastically dance, but Coco isn't looking up. Bluey becomes concerned and decides that they need to find her to make sure she's OK.

Bluey sends Bingo to look for Coco while she surveys from the CCTV monitor. Bingo finds Winton and the Terriers first and they all split up to look for Coco. Meanwhile, Winton's dad tests some breath spray, giving him the courage to talk to the Terriers' mum, while Bandit asks an employee for help choosing the right type of vitamins. After much searching, Bingo finally appears in the same frame as Coco, but she walks right past her. Bluey, Winton, and the Terriers frantically wave their arms, but to no avail. Bandit says it's time to go, just as Bingo walks out of the frame...and then appears next to Bluey. The counter was right next to them the whole time, hidden by a newspaper rack. The girls delightedly run over to Coco, who seems to be feeling better, and they all dance together, along with Winton and the Terriers on the screen. Bandit watches and begins to bounce a bit as well.

Getting back in the car, the girls are happy that Bandit's vitamins will give him more energy. They ask if kids ever need more energy, which Bandit notes is definitely not the case. As Bandit pulls the car out, he asks what was wrong with Coco, and Bluey tells him she did have bum worms. Bandit slams on the brakes, realizing they may have to go back in to get bum worm chocolate.

Tropes:

  • Anticipatory Breath Spray: When Winton's dad sees the Terriers' mum, he uses some breath spray to give himself the courage to go talk to her.
  • Call-Back: In "Bumpy and the Wise Old Wolfhound", Bandit plays a carrot vendor who is eventually revealed to have bum worms. It also partly serves as a Furry Reminder—bum worms aren't a typical malady for humans to have, particularly in a developed country
  • Control Room Puzzle: Bluey using the CCTV to direct Bingo where to go is very reminiscent of a Control Room Puzzle video game, with the goal of figuring out the layout of the store and getting Bingo and Coco to the same location.
  • Flat "What": Bandit's reaction when he learns in the ending that his daughters interacted with Coco and think nothing of the fact she has bum worms.
  • Held Gaze: Winton's dad and the Terriers' mum have a brief one at the school. While she is talking with Snickers' mum, she happily looks back at him while he excitedly stares at her.
  • Meaningful Background Event: When Winton's dad (Word of God says his name is Cornelius) picks him up from school, he and the Terriers' mum have a brief Held Gaze moment, then later at the TV Shop, Cornelius sees her again and uses some breath spray before going to talk to her. Then, while all the children play with the TV's, the Terriers' mum affectionately touches his arm.
