Recap / Bluey Dirt

Go To

Wendy bathes an impatient Judo, then tells her to play. Upon looking out the window, Judo sees a man dumping a truckload of dirt onto the Heelers' lawn, prompting the Heeler sisters to play in it. Judo asks Wendy if she can play with Bluey, and Wendy allows it, but tells her daughter not to get dirty.

Judo goes next door, to where the Heeler sisters are still playing in the dirt, and announces that she wants to play too, but Wendy won't let her get her "lovely hair" dirty. Thus, the Heeler girls push Judo up the pile of dirt in a tub so she won't get dirty, then push her down. She wants to do it again, but Bluey says no as it's too hard to push her up.

When the Heeler sisters start making imprints in the dirt, Judo wants to as well, but she can't without getting dirty, so she asks Wendy why she's not allowed to. Wendy explains that their fur takes a long time to clean, then Judo comes back to the Heelers' yard. Bluey and Bingo present her with a face shield, apron, boots, and gloves so she can make an imprint in the dirt without getting dirty. She does (though the clothes do slow her down a bit).

Bandit sprays the dirt with the hose to make mud, and the Heeler sisters invite Judo to play in it, but she doesn't think her clothes would keep mud off. Then, Wendy goes outside and the Heeler sisters ask her if Judo can play in the mud. Wendy eventually gives in, wanting Judo to have fun.

Judo, however, sits on the stairs instead. Wendy asks if she wants to play in the mud with the Heeler girls, and Judo says that she does, but she doesn't want to get her coat dirty. So Wendy cuts her and Judo's fur short to make it easier to clean.

As Bandit arrives with a wheelbarrow, Judo, now with short fur, runs up and plays with the Heeler girls, while Bandit and Wendy talk on the stairs.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Wendy puts a hair decoration on Judo, then later she puts on a face shield, apron, gloves, and boots.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Wendy calls Judo "honey", "sweetie", and "sweetheart".
  • Continuity Nod: After the title of the episode is announced, Bluey sings about "having a dirt shower" using the operatic voice she had used in "Dance Mode".
  • Establishing Character Moment: Wendy giving Judo her bath and grooming her fur is meant to drive home that the former is not only a creature of habit, but takes pain-staking lengths to keep her daughter clean.
  • Filthy Fun: The entire plot of the episode revolves around Judo wanting to play in the dirt with Bluey and Bingo.
  • Furry Reminder:
    • When Wendy is blow-drying Judo, the latter acknowledges that she and her mother have fluffy coats, then later Bluey comments that Heelers don't have "lovely hair".
    • Judo wags her tail a few times, then later Wendy does.
  • Important Haircut: Judo and Wendy's bald cuts symbolize a permanent change in their dynamics with both the Heelers and themselves.
  • Neat Freak: Wendy bathes Judo rigorously and tells her not to get dirty, though she eventually caves in.
  • Shaped Like Itself: Bingo says, "This dirt is very dirty!" when talking about how it's hard not to get dirty when playing with it.
  • Speak in Unison: Two times:
    • When Judo puts the dirt-protection clothes on, the Heeler sisters chant her name in unison.
    • Then they say, "Okay, dad", when Bandit shows up with his wheelbarrow, then, "Ah, bald Judo!" when she shows up with shorter fur.
