- Failed a Spot Check: Steve sees and picks up the piece of paper on the race track, but doesn't notice Blue's pawprint until the viewers point it out.
- Late to the Realization: Steve, when he finally acknowledges the piece of paper he's holding is a clue.
- Mind Screw: How Blue was able to leave a pawprint in the air is never explained.
- Mr. Fixit: Steve acknowledges that the viewer is this.Steve: (to the viewer) Hey thanks so much for all your help today, I know who to call if anything needs fixing.
- Oh, Crap!: The chipmunk, when he can't stop his bike.
- Sibling Rivalry: Downplayed. Shovel and Pail have races with their toy cars to see which one is faster.
- Visual Pun: When Steve says "Gopher!" instead of "go," a gopher pops up from underground.
