The Man Who Cuts Death
With time off, Asta takes a vacation to Nean to visit Rebecca and her siblings. However, his trip is ruined when all of the town’s children are abducted by nefarious mages. Asta and his bad-tempered teammate Gauche try to work together against the threat, with the Eye of the Midnight Sun members also joining the fight.
Tropes:
- Arc Villain: Baro and Sally try to kidnap children from Nean for her experimentation. Not long after they are defeated, Licht makes his introduction.
- Big Damn Heroes:
- Yami and Finral arrive just in time as Asta, Gauche, and Sister Theresa are being attacked by Licht.
- Charlotte Roselei, Jack the Ripper, and Nozel Silva come to help Yami as he's being overwhelmed by the Third Eye.
- A Day in the Limelight: For Gauche, showing his past which explains why he became a selfish loner who only cares about his little sister, and having him become a brother she would be proud of by helping Asta, even developing a new spell involving cooperation.
- Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: When Licht starts bemoaning his tragedies and the people he has lost, Yami quickly parodies his own Dark and Troubled Past, by mentioning that he's suffered a lot to get to where he is, but he never made a big deal out of it, held someone else accountable or became evil because of it.
- Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Licht impales Sister Theresa with several spears of light. Fortunately, she survives.
- Logical Weakness: Licht's Light Magic is incredibly fast and powerful. However, as Gauche puts it, no matter how big or strong it is mirrors reflect light. Gauche's giant mirror sends Licht's huge light blast back at him, leaving him greatly injured.
- Out of Focus: Noelle is left behind in order to watch the town in case anything happens while Asta, Gauche, and Sister Theresa save the children.
