Steve gets to New Mexico and starts looking for his birth mom. With help from a friendly official, Steve gets her name and manages to track down a man, who turns out to be Steve's maternal grandfather, Al Brown. Al reveals that Steve's biological mother, Karen, died in a car accident some years ago and Steve is heartbroken that he will never meet her. Al brings Steve to her gravesite, and, though he is sad, Steve is happy to have found his grandfather. Dylan decides to go visit his father, because, even though his father left Dylan alone many Christmases, Dylan won't do the same to him. Brenda stars working in a high-end boutique, but dislikes how the manager treats a homeless man dressed as Santa. Cindy misses the postcard winter of Minneapolis and the community of Christmas there, so Brandon decides to invite his friends over, which delights Cindy.
