Station Under Investigation: St Helen's

Young Joey Pearce is found dead whilst in Police custody at St Helen's police station; with a bright future at university ahead of him surely he wouldn't have killed himself? Tony steps in to investigate.

Provides examples of:

  • Driven to Suicide: Joey committed suicide after being left to think that his life was about to be ruined because he was about to be charged with possession.
  • Dumb Struck: Alice is practically catatonic when Tony and Mo come to interview her and husband about Joey's death.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Alice tells Tony that Joey never went by his full name, Joseph.
  • Profiling: When Tony and Mo ask if Joey had ever been in trouble with the police before, his father mentioned that he had been stopped and searched a few times, but that this is hardly unusual for a Black teenage boy.
  • Retirony: Joey was about start medical school before his death. His GP mentions to Mo that he could have gone on to pursue a much more prestigious Chemistry degree at Oxford or Cambridge, but he had his heart set on being a doctor.
