Tropes
- Bystander Syndrome: Kate was supposed to keep the kids out of the kitchen entirely by Alfred's request, and probably should have stepped in and offered help or at least a bit of criticism to remind Dick that he could look up a recipe on his phone when it became clear Dick wasn't going off a recipe and was making things up as he went along. Instead she just followed to watch.
- The Cameo: The final two panels show the full Bat Family sitting down for Thanksgiving dinner, including four members that had not been officially introduced at that point: Selina Kyle (Catwoman), Harper Row (Bluebird), Luke Fox (Batwing), and Bette Kane.
- Character Exaggeration: While mainstream versions of Dick are far more often seen eating cereal he is capable of cooking a meal, for instance he once prepared Tim bacon and eggs when Bruce was out of commission due to his back being broken, which Tim treated as super impressive due to most of his meals coming from school cafeterias since he'd been in Boarding School most of his life. Tim has also been shown to be not completely incompetent in the kitchen, he once prepared a homemade soup for Stephanie when she was sick with his stepmother's help in Robin (1993). While Dick's cooking skills tend towards basic meals and Tim has to carefully follows step by step instructions for his it's unlikely their attempts to bake a pie would go quite so badly. Tim does follow the instructions he's given carefully in "Top Chef", and the major contributors to the pie's failure are Damian and Cass, but it seems like either he or Dick should have looked up a recipe rather than wing it since neither of them knew how to bake a pie.
- Epic Fail: They used a pot to bake their pie in, thinking that any pan would do, didn't preheat the oven, got the dough-to-filling ratio incorrect, let it bake too long, and put a stick of celery in it for some reason (it could be uncut rhubarb, but that's not really an improvement). No one is brave enough to eat it.
- Food Fight: Cass and Damian start slinging flour at each other, making a ridiculous mess of the kitchen.
- Lethal Chef: The final product is...questionable to say the least. Stephanie flat-out refuses to eat it.
- Pass the Popcorn: After telling Dick she's supposed to keep them out of the kitchen Kate simply follows them to lean against the wall and watch the chaos where she can easily reach snacks. Alfred is later unimpressed with her "attempt" to keep them out of his kitchen.
- Tempting Fate: Oh, Dick Grayson...Dick: It's just pie! What could possibly go wrong?
