Go To

While in the bathtub, Fuches is called by Hank, who wants to make a peace offering by giving him Barry, but Fuches is not interested after Hank's attempts to kill him. However, upon seeing Sally and John, he decides to go after seeing Barry's son. At a store, Barry buys weapons as he intends to meet at Hank's location.

Buckner announces to the press that Janice Moss' case has been re-opened, with Jim sharing that Gene is responsible for her death. At their secluded location, John asks Sally what is happening. Sally finally confesses that they've been running away from the law for eight years, admitting that Barry is a killer that escaped from prison. She also states that as she killed a man, she deserves whatever happens to her. She says that he does not deserve this and calls herself a bad mother, causing her to cry and John hugs her. Hank's henchmen arrive and separate them by taking Sally outside the room.

Fuches arrives at Nohobal, demanding to see John. Fuches then offers a new deal to Hank: he will leave and lose any contact with him, as long as Hank admits to killing Cristobal. Hank tearfully admits his regrets in having failed to keep Cristobal safe. As John is brought out, Hank changes his mind and calls Fuches a liar. Fuches quickly shoots Hank before protecting John as a shootout erupts, killing all of his and Hank's men. A wounded Fuches raises and takes a safe John away from Nohobal, while a dazed Sally follows them. Barry arrives and John runs into his arms. Upon seeing Fuches, they exchange a silent look before Fuches leaves. Back at Nohobal, Hank dies holding the hand of Cristobal's golden statue.

Barry, Sally and John hide in a motel room. While John sleeps, Sally tells Barry that he needs to surrender to the police, as Gene will go to prison for Janice's murder. Barry states that he made a prayer before going to Nohobal, and feels that God gave him another chance as he did not die. The next morning, Barry is astonished to find that Sally and John have left. At his house, Gene stares at the news about him, including Leo writing an article with his claims, so he takes out a gun from his vault. As Tom prepares to leave the house, Barry shows up, looking for Sally and John. Tom asks Barry to turn himself in, as it is the only thing that will save Gene from being wrongfully imprisoned. Barry finally considers this, and asks Tom to call the police so he can surrender. Suddenly, Barry is shot in the shoulder by Gene, who emerged from his room. Barry replies "oh, wow" in shock, before Gene fatally shoots him in the head. Gene then silently sits on the couch, while Tom goes outside to call an ambulance.

Years later, Sally is now a respected theater director at a school. After an Our Town performance, she runs into a new teacher at the school. He invites her to go on a date with him, but she declines. Since she has allowed a teenaged John to spend more time with his friends, John joins some friends at a house to finally watch The Mask Collector, Barry's biopic. The biopic depicts Barry as a marine entering into acting to cope with his wartime experience, and then being manipulated by Gene into murdering for him as he is involved with the Chechens. It also depicts that Gene killed Janice, and ratted on Barry after he forced him to dispose of the body. After Barry escapes prison, he rescues his family from the Chechens before he is killed by Gene in a confrontation. The film's epilogue reveals that Gene is serving a life sentence in prison for the murders of Janice and Barry, while Barry was buried in Arlington National Cemetery with full honors. As the film ends, John grins.
