Black Widow brings Hawkeye with her on a mission to retrieve a dangerous weapon belonging to an old villain.
Things become complicated when the villain's son possesses it and AIM and MODOK are after him, while possessing an old weapon the Avengers recently faced.
As if that's not complicated enough, Widow is under orders by SHIELD's Nick Fury to keep this mission intel away from Tony Stark.

- "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: It's pointed out that, while Fury's orders were to keep the rest of the team off of the case, the Avengers as a whole could have protected Molecule Kid and the wand without causing so much damage.
- Heroes Gone Fishing: It's mentioned at the start of the episode that Falcon and Hawkeye have the day off, and spend it at a carnival. At least until Widow grabs Hawkeye and gets him to join her on her mission.
- Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: Molecule Kid, son of Molecule Man, is now the only one who can use the Molecule Wand. And since SHIELD locked up his father and his mother "left", he's on his own. To make things worse, he's being hounded by various agencies that want the wand for themselves. Hawkeye and Widow quickly realize that they aren't dealing with a super villain in the making, just a scared kid backed into a corner.
