"Why my Auntie trying to make me go to one of these bougie Junteenth parties again? I don't like them sadity people and I'm gonna miss my shows. Le sigh."
Episode Description

The Atlanta episode "Juneteenth" provides examples of:

  • Innocently Insensitive: Monique's husband inadvertently bothers Earn by pestering him for not having visited Africa or learned his African ancestry. Earn's not in a position to do either of those things.
  • Pretty Fly for a White Guy: Played with. The African-American Monique's husband is a wealthy white man with compassion for and interest in black history. But his interest is clearly more habitual than personal.
  • Stepford Smiler: A theme of the episode. Earn and Van fake domestic bliss to look appealing to the party-goers. Near the end of the episode we find out Monique fakes her own bliss because she loves the financial stability of her marriage. At the end of the episode Earn stops faking how he feels in front of the party-goers, and in a twist is actually rewarded for it.
