Chapter 14

Ash finishes translating the encounter with the Weather Trio to his friends, and Azelf questions the group as a whole about their anxiety confronting Legendary Pokémon. Ash confides that he had had too many near-death experiences and a few actual deaths when dealing with Legendaries, and while he didn't blame them, he felt nervous by association.

Oshawott leads a small group of Ash's Pokémon to a secluded area on the beach, to their trepidation. As he prepares to demonstrate Origin Pulse, a trio of Team Skull grunts arrive, and he uses them as test targets. Lacking bulk and experience, he blasts off the grunts but is sent flying by the move's recoil. When he emerges, he's evolved into Dewott.

At Lake Acuity in Sinnoh, May is training Blaziken and Venusaur for a contest when a disturbance stirs the lake and something knocks her out from behind. Blaziken attempts to retaliate with Overheat, but the disturbance widens into a portal, and a Kartana flies through it and knocks Blaziken out. Venusaur sends Kartana flying but is knocked out and forcibly returned by a Nihilego, who bemoans the necessity of the destruction for the sake of peace. Securing May, Nihilego and Kartana return through the portal, planning to meet "the Defender" that night. A few minutes later, Uxie arrives in the area, perceives May's last memory before falling unconscious, and flies off to inform Arceus.

Ash's Pokémon, one and all, grow nervous and hostile when Yveltal appears to give his own gift. Ash, by now, has realized that there's something else going on, and Yveltal confirms that he wasn't there of his own volition—though he does apologize to Pikachu—but at the behest of his lord. While he can't say what's going on, he is there to ensure that Ash is safe. Thus, with an apology, he does something that causes Ash to begin screaming in excruciating pain. Pikachu retaliates while Mew and Azelf guard Ash, but the pain recedes relatively quickly, leaving two marks burned onto Ash's chest. To Mew and Azelf's shock and apprehension, Yveltal informs him that he made Ash into an anchor that would allow him to resurrect the dead. Yveltal leaves the warriors he revived in Ash's care; upon his disappearance, the two marks on Ash's chest shine and send beams of light that slowly morph into Latios and Lucario, to the shock of everyone familiar with them and to the euphoria of Latias and Ash.
