Recap / Archer S 10 E 9 Robert De Niro

Go To

When a trial turns into a party, it can only mean that Barry-6 has returned.

  • A-Team Firing: Krieger activates some fully automatic sentry guns, to Archer's delight...except they just blindly fire down a single hallway that has no targets in it until they run out of ammo. Barry-6 lampshades that they were completely useless.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Cyril actually ends up killing every single one of Barry-6's comrades after yelling "SUPPRESSING FIRE!" for once. Everyone is very speechless about it.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: The final part of the montage is a supercut of every outfit and costume Archer has ever worn.
  • Death by Adaptation: Before waking up in the real world, Archer sacrifices himself to hold off Barry-6 while the others escape.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Archer holds off Barry-6 long enough for everybody to get to the escape pod.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Cheryl asks why such a small spaceship has a huge dedicated courtroom, especially when they have a holodeck.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: The revelation that Archer was in his coma for three years, the exact amount of real life time since the episode that caused it.
  • Parental Incest: Malory's behaviors regarding love and sex are so warped that she can't sincerely express how happy she is that Archer's out of his coma without sounding like she's attempting to come on to him. When she claims their life is like one big "love story", Archer doesn't seem pleased.
  • Pet the Dog: Turns out Malory has been camping out in Archer's hospital room for the better part of three years, just so she could be there if and when he finally woke up.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Cyril’s regularly unhelpful ‘suppressing fire’ habit actually does some good when he kills Barry-6’s forces. Granted, this is in Archer’s subconscious, but it’s still a sight to see.
  • Sanity Slippage: Archer's descent into insanity continues, perhaps even affecting the world around him as there is a courtroom in the ship for some reason.
  • Series Fauxnale: Was originally planned as a series finale.
  • Trivial Title: "Robert De Niro" refers to the song played during the ending montage.
  • Unbroken Vigil: Malory has spent the last three years doing this so Archer wouldn't wake up alone.
  • Wham Episode: Archer finally wakes up from his coma, three years later.
  • Wham Line: In-Universe, Archer saying his first words in three years upon waking up.
    Archer: (wakes up) Goddamn Barry.
