Tropes present in this episode:

  • Chekhov's Gag: In Player's daydream in the opening, Player tells Captain that they're best friends forever, close enough to know each other's first names (which is very out of character for him.) This is later played for laughs, still in the daydream, when Player kills Captain as the Impostor, telling him he never enjoyed their friendship. In the actual game, Player ends up getting voted out when he's unable to guess Captain's first name.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Captain, when told that Player is exploiting their 'friendship' to not get voted out, misses the point entirely:
The Gentleman: Player and Ninja are working together. Ninja knows that you consider yourself to be a friend with Player, and is counting on you siding with him in this vote.
Captain: Wait, wait, wait. What do you mean 'consider yourself to be a friend with Player'? Me and Player are best friends!
  • Flaw Exploitation: Player (as the Impostor) is sure that Captain would side with him, given how much the latter values their 'friendship'. It almost worked.
  • Foreshadowing: Captain's frosty response to Player not knowing his real name sets up his Faceā€“Heel Turn in Episode 15.
  • Shout-Out: To Star Trek, in Player's daydream in the opening.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Mr. Cheese. Veteran even lampshades it.
Veteran: You've turned into a real jerk since you started winning all the time.
