- Early-Bird Cameo: Evan O'Toole makes his only appearance this season as an unnamed student in Anna-Kat's special-ed class. Starting in season 2 this student is named Franklin and becomes a Recurring Character.
- Second Episode Introduction: Although Taylor was introduced in the pilot, the role was recast when the show went to series. Meg Donnelly's tomboyish portrayal of Taylor is a marked contrast to Johnny Sequoyah's more girly take on the character.
- Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: The first of Katie's many adversaries, Crossing Guard Sandy, is introduced here.
