Stan tries to use his CIA connections to help Steve impress a girl.
Tropes:
- As You Know: Roger mentions that he saved Stan's life at Area 51, which is how they met.
- Couch Gag: During the opening, Stan picks up a newspaper which has a satirical headline. This gag would last up until the start of Season 5.
- Early-Installment Weirdness:
- The episode's humor is more in line with that of Family Guy, including a couple cutaway style jokes.
- Stan is much more overt in his paranoia towards Hayley, tackling her and subjecting her to a full body scan when she walks in the house.
- Roger gives off a discharge of protoplasm every seven hours.
- The show also starts with Roger being confined to the Smith household and lamenting that he can't go anywhere. Later episodes show that Roger has been on Earth for decades, and his disguises become an integral part of the show.
- Fake Danger Gambit: Stan stages a purse-snatching at the mall so that his son can save the day and be more attractive to the ladies. He unfortunately goes overboard, completely forgetting to let Steve catch him, given that he is a CIA agent in peak physical condition. Steve gets exhausted by the time he reaches the escalator.
- Soft Glass: Subverted. Stan jumps through a window at the mall, and in the following scene, he has multiple shards of glass sticking out of his chin.
- Understatement: Stan tries to help Steve impress a girl by snatching a purse so that his son can stop him. However, Stan quickly gets carried away and easily plows his way out of the mall. He then tells Steve that he might have gone too far.
- With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: Steve gets elected school president, and he quickly goes insane.
