Finn and Jake are called to solve a Candy Kingdom hostage crisis involving a rogue cookie who wants to be a princess.

Tropes

  • Ambiguous Gender Identity: Fans argue about whether Snaps' desire to be a Princess was because he simply wanted the authority and respect and didn't know any other kind of ruler existed, or if they were actually transgender.
  • Ceiling Cling: Finn just before he attacks the chocolate chip in the storeroom.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • You can see Goliad and Stormo still having their psychic duel in the background while Finn, Jake, and P.B. discuss a plan to free a group of hostages.
    • The book PB read the orphans, Baby Whoozlefut & the Wuttlebugs, is the same book Ice King read to his captives in "Prisoners Of Love".
    • The Old Tart Toter appears at the end of the episode, as one of the other patients at the mental hospital.
    • The horse costume used by a Banana Guard is similar to the one Ice King used in "The Eyes".
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Baby Snaps was an orphan who had his dreams of being a princess created and ruined by Princess Bubblegum reading to the orphanage, then laughing at his idea that he could become a princess to help people like her.
  • Detachment Combat: Snaps's chocolate chips are independent beings, that he detaches to held him in the siege.
  • Driven to Suicide: Snaps tries to throw himself to his death in a gorge, but survives despite being broken into several pieces.
  • Foreshadowing: Princess Bubblegum's identical appearance when Snaps was a child is an early indication that her real age doesn't match her apparent one.
  • Grey-and-Grey Morality: Snaps is holding hostages in exchange for Princess Bubblegum's crown, but it turns out his intentions are benign, as he only wants to be a princess. On PB's part, she laughed at a young Snaps when he said he wanted to be a princess, albeit without intending any harm, and refuses to hear Snaps out even when he's fine with just escaping without the crown, seeing that he has to be put in the dungeon for his crimes.
  • Hostage Situation: Courtesy of Snaps. Jake tries to reason with him.
  • Living Shadow: Not a superpower, but Finn takes a unique disguise as Jake's shadow.
  • Ninja: Finn wears a ninja outfit to pretend to be Jake's shadow.
  • Orphanage of Fear: The children in the Candy Kingdom orphanage were all completely depressed until PB visited, even though the place didn't seem actively cruel.
  • She Is the King: Inverted. Despite being male, Snaps wants to become a princess.
  • Shout-Out: Possibly to Revolutionary Girl Utena, where the protagonist (a young woman who was an orphan) wants to be a prince after a prince helped her when she was a child.
  • Stockholm Syndrome: Jake very quickly comes to sympathize with Snaps.
  • To Be Lawful or Good: Finn is torn between sympathizing with Jake (who wants to help Snaps escape) and PB (who wants him in the dungeon).
