Jake becomes obsessed with making a good impression on Lady Rainicorn's parents, to the detriment of his buddy Finn.
Tropes:
- Blind Without 'Em: Lady Rainicorn's parents are revealed to be barely sighted even with their glasses, which is the only reason why Finn's idea works. The episode includes the "eyes shrink to pinpricks when glasses are removed" animated convention.
- Comically Missing the Point:
Jake: So... this isn't human?
Ethel: Oh, no. This is soy people!
Jake: Ew... soy?
- I'm a Humanitarian: The Rainicorns are revealed to be this, although they've never actually eaten a real human and eat soy people as an alternative.
- I Taste Delicious: Finn's reaction to eating soy human is one of apparent delight.
- Maligned Mixed Marriage: Jake fears that Lady Rainicorn's parents will be opposed to their marriage because of the historic war between Rainicorns and Dogs, but it turns out they're happy about it because an honourable dog saved her father's life during the war.
- Paper-Thin Disguise: Jake manages to disguise himself as a rainicorn by stretching out his body and painting himself and the treehouse in condiments. It works, but only because Lady Rainicorn's parents are incredibly near-sighted.
- Averted with Finn, who tries to disguise himself has a rainicorn, but they instead just assume he's pretending to be a rainicorn to insult their heritage.
- Wham Episode: Downplayed, but the ending of the episode confirms that, aside from Finn, humans are extinct- or at least exceedingly rare- in Ooo.
- Zany Scheme: Lampshaded, after Jake tries to put Finn's crazy idea to impress Lady's parents into action.
Jake: You know, I thought painting ourselves rainbow colors using condiments and stuff from the fridge so we could pretend to be rainicorns was a good idea when you pitched it to me five minutes ago, but now I'm not so sure, man...
