Basic Trope: A unicorn with wings.
- Straight: Alice and Bob have a pet unicorn called Eventide who has wings.
- Exaggerated:
- They have several winged unicorns as pets.
- All the characters are winged unicorns.
- Downplayed: A winged unicorn is seen in the background.
- Justified:
- Eventide's mother was a pegasus and her father was a unicorn or vice versa.
- Eventide lives In a World… where winged unicorns are possible, or even the norm.
- Inverted:
- The Unicorn has no wings.
- The Pegasus has no horn.
- Subverted: Eventide turns out to be a regular unicorn with a fairy on her back or a pegasus with a party hat.
- Double Subverted: Her brother Dusk is a real winged unicorn.
- Parodied: Charlie is on some sort of holodeck and tries to make a winged unicorn but the computer says "Pegasus or unicorn. Pick one or the other."
- Averted: There are no fantasy creatures, no unicorns, or the unicorns don't have wings.
- Zigzagged: The work has Pegasus's, unicorns, winged unicorns, and regular horses.
- Enforced: The writer thinks fantasy is cool and combines two fantasy creatures due to Rule of Cool.
- Lampshaded: "Was that a unicorn flying past?"
- Invoked: Bob tries to get one of these by breeding pegs and unicorns.
- Exploited: Eventide can use her wings to fly and her horn to do magic, meaning she can do a lot of things.
- Defied: The only way to get a winged unicorn is to have a regular unicorn and a pegasus to have a foal. Both creatures are not interested.
- Discussed: "How does that unicorn have wings?" "A Wizard Did It".
- Conversed: "Wow, that writer must like fantasy creatures if there's so many unicorns with wings flying around."
- Implied: "I don't like unicorns. Their feathers get everywhere."
- Deconstructed: A unicorn’s fragile horse bones suffer damage upon landing. Unicorns frequently end up permanently disabled or even dead after a few flights.
- Reconstructed: Unicorns are outfitted with shock-absorbing horseshoes, allowing them to land comfortably and live longer, healthier lives than they would in the wild.
- Played for Laughs: Eventide is a silly goat-like unicorn with scraggly seagull-like wings, and keeps eating out of Alice’s trash.
- Played for Drama: All the winged unicorns are put under some sort of curse.
- Played For Horror: A horse can kick or trample a human to death, and an owl flies silently in the night to ambush unsuspecting prey. Now imagine a creature in the size and shape of a horse, but with an owl’s silent wings and predatory nature, and a lethally sharp horn to boot…
