Basic Trope Description: One of two wedding partners dies during the wedding, leaving the other partner behind as a widow(er).
- Straight: Alice and Bob get married. But during the ceremony, Alice suddenly goes into anaphylactic shock and dies of it before the altar.
- Exaggerated: For decades, no wedding in the respective church went down without one of the couple dying.
- Downplayed: Alice faints during her wedding.
- Justified: Alice had been careless in expectation of her wedding and accidentally eaten nuts she was allergic to.
- Inverted: Alice and Bob get married while Alice is heavily pregnant. Alice then gives birth at the wedding
- Subverted: Alice's death is a Disney Death.
- Double Subverted: But Alice Came Back Wrong and is undead, so she needs to be killed at the wedding to be able to rest at last.
- Enforced: The writers need a tragic way to end Bob's romance with Alice.
- Averted: Nobody dies at their wedding.
- Zig-Zagged: Alice may have been resurrected wrongly and had to be killed again, but she was Immune to Bullets and only took another form as an Energy Being. But as an Energy Being, she is stuck in another dimension from which she cannot interact with Bob...
- Parodied: Carol tries to sell life insurances to Alice and Bob and advertises them with the fact that they also cover deaths at your own wedding.
- Invoked: Bob is The Bluebeard and gave Alice the nuts before their wedding, hoping that an anaphylactic shock would kill her in a dramatic manner - and nobody would raise suspicions on him, since he would be the most pitied.
- Exploited: Denise, who has the hots for Bob, promptly goes Comforting the Widow with him.
- Defied: "This is so exciting, I'm so hungry!" *grabs some nuts* "No, Alice! Those are the ones you're allergic to!"
