Basic Trope: A character likes the temperature colder or warmer than anyone around them.

  • Straight:
    • Icelynn is only happy when the ceiling fan is on, a cold breeze is blowing through her windows, and she's wearing a short-sleeve shirt and shorts.
    • Blaze is only happy when the ceiling fan is off, the radiator's on with all the windows closed, and he's wearing a parka and sweatpants.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Icelynn turns her thermostat to its lowest setting, has an ice pack on her chair, and is always sipping ice-cold slushies.
    • Blaze turns his thermostat to its highest setting, has a hot water bag on his chair, and is always sipping flaming hot ghost pepper smoothies.
  • Downplayed:
    • Icelynn does like to keep her room well-ventilated, but it's not too noticeably colder.
    • Blaze does like to keep his room well-ventilated, but it's not too noticeably hotter.
  • Justified:
    • Icelynn likes to wear bulky clothing, and if her room was too hot, then she would get sweaty and uncomfortable.
    • Icelynn just moved back from her stint at Antartica, just let her reacclimate.
    • Blaze likes to wear nothing but his skivvies, and if his room was too cold, then he would get shivery and uncomfortable.
    • Blaze just moved back from his stint in the Saharan Desert, just let him reacclimate.
  • Inverted: Icelynn and/or Blaze only likes everything to be at room temperature.
  • Subverted:
    • Icelynn doesn't actually like cold temperatures. People just thought she did because of her name.
    • Blaze doesn't actually like hot temperatures. People just thought he did because of his name.
  • Double Subverted:
    • In fact, she likes warm temperatures to an unreasonable amount.
    • In fact, he likes cold temperatures to an unreasonable amount.
  • Parodied:
    • Icelynn is able to withstand Arctic temperatures. Her only complaint is that it's still too hot.
    • Blaze is able to withstand Saharan temperatures. His only complaint is that it's still too cold.
  • Zig-Zagged:
    • Icelynn wants her room to be cold, but that would be bad for her health, so she keeps it at a normal temperature. Still, she favors cold showers and her favorite food is flash-frozen ice cream, even if she does like scalding hot lattes as well.
    • Blaze wants his room to be hot, but that would be bad for his health, so he keeps it at a normal temperature. Still, he favors hot showers and his favorite food is scalding hot chili soup, even if he does like freezing cold chocolate as well.
  • Averted: Icelynn and Blaze doesn't have a particular preference for hot and cold.
  • Enforced: "We need some Roommate Drama. What if Icelynn got mad that her roommate was messing with her thermostat because she likes being cold? And what if Blaze got mad that his roommate was messing with his thermostat because he likes being hot?"
  • Lampshaded: "Why is Icelynn always drinking slushies? You think she just likes being cold? And Blaze, too, he's always drinking blended ghost peppers. You think he just likes being hot?"
  • Invoked:
  • Exploited:
    • Icelynn knows that her roommate can't stand low temperatures, so she becomes accustomed to the cold and turns down her room's thermostat so she can be in peace without her roommate bothering her.
    • Blaze knows that his roommate can't stand high temperatures, so he becomes accustomed to the hot and turns up his room's thermostat so he can be in peace without his roommate bothering him.
  • Defied: Icelynn and/or Blaze ensures that she is comfortable with every temperature.
  • Discussed: "If I kept my thermostat as low as Icelynn does, I think I'd just come down with a cold. And if I kept my thermostat as high as Blaze does, I think I'd be lying dead in a puddle of my own sweat."
  • Conversed: "Hey, don't touch my thermostat! Who are you, those Icelynn and Blaze characters on TV?"

Go back to Thermal Dissident — arctic cold, and I wouldn't want it any other way. And no, don't let Blaze near that thermostat. If he wants to turn it up, he can see himself out.
