Basic Trope: A "The Reason You Suck" Speech that's aimed at yourself.

  • Straight: Alice make a speech about how horrible most of her actions were.
  • Exaggerated: Her speech goes on for days, or even years.
  • Downplayed: Alice mentions some of her flaws and says she is gonna be better, but that’s it.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted:
  • Parodied: Alice starts calling herself out for committing the terrible crime of… putting milk before cereals.
  • Subverted: Alice looks like she is about to talk about how horrible she is, but then she just randomly decides to change the topic.
  • Double Subverted: And after some time, she eventually starts talking about how much of a terrible person she is.
  • Implied: Alice looks tired after some time, and when asked about it, she responds: "I told them what I thought of myself."
  • Enforced:
    • The creators want to make the audience realize that Alice isn’t so bad.
    • The creators just really hate Alice and want her to make a speech about everything they think about her, thinking that it will humble her.
  • Exploited: Alice drops all of her flaws first to make clear that she is content (or at least is working on getting rid of them) and with that remove the ammunition from Jim's attempt at making them public in a way that inevitably will benefit him.
  • Invoked: Jim does Reverse Psychology on Alice to swindle her into insulting herself with her own flaws when she was expecting a more typical lecture.
  • Deconstructed: ???
  • Reconstructed: ???

Back to to the main page. Look, if you're wondering why I'm not going there, it's because I word cruft a lot, I natter a lot, I make weasel words, I put up puffery, and I even vandalized like 50 articles at this point. I'm not good enough to be on the main page.
