Go To

Basic Trope: A character has comically bad art skills.

  • Straight: Bob tries to draw a picture of Alice, and it ends up looking bad.
  • Exaggerated: Bob tries to draw a picture of Alice. He somehow ends up with various scribbles that look vaguely like alien creatures.
  • Downplayed:
    • Bob's drawing isn't too terrible, but notably misses out on many of Alice's important features.
    • Bob is actually a quite comptent artist, but there are certain parts of human anatomy that he just can never get a handle on (usually hands and/or feet) and they always end up looking weird he attempts to draw them.
  • Justified:
    • Bob doesn't have much practice drawing.
    • Bob is a young child.
  • Inverted: Bob's drawing of Alice is excellent.
  • Subverted: Bob reveals that he was just pretending to have bad art skills.
  • Double Subverted: His real art skills are even worse.
  • Parodied: Bob even looks like a professional painter, but when he tries to draw Alice, it still looks terrible.
  • Zig-Zagged: Sometimes Bob is good at drawing, sometimes he isn't.
  • Averted:
    • Bob's art skills are never brought up.
    • Bob has average art skills.
  • Enforced: A method of Stylistic Suck.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Bob takes an art class.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "Why are some characters so bad at art?"
  • Implied: Bob's drawing is never shown onscreen, but other characters react to it with some form of disdain.
