Basic Trope: Dual Wielding a blade with a firearm.

  • Straight: Alice fights with a sword in one hand and a pistol in the other.
  • Exaggerated: Alice fights with a BFS in one hand and a BFG in the other.
  • Downplayed: Alice fends off an attacker with a dagger and a single shot pistol.
  • Justified: Alice wants to make sure she's never at a disadvantage when an enemy is too close or too far from her.
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted: Alice's gun is empty, and she's only using it to parry blows.
  • Double Subverted: She finds ammunition later in the fight, loads her gun and starts using both of her weapons in combination.
  • Parodied: Alice challenges Bob, her Sitcom Arch-Nemesis, to a duel with balloon swords and water guns, all because they disagree on whether pineapple goes on pizza.
  • Zig-Zagged: Alice fights with a sword and a gun at once, but runs out of bullets, forcing her to rely entirely on her sword. Then she finds ammunition, reloads and uses both weapons at once again. Then Bob manages to disarm her of her sword, forcing her to hold out with only her gun. After a minute of fighting, she gets a chance to retrieve her sword and finishes the fight with both weapons.
  • Averted:
    • No one fights with more than one weapon at the same time.
    • Guns don't exist in the work's setting.
  • Enforced: The game designers wanted a balanced character who had both ranged and melee options to contrast with the more specialized units.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: A mage casts a spell that renders all projectiles useless, forcing Alice as well as her enemies to rely exclusively on melee weapons.
  • Discussed: "Dual wielding a sword with a gun requires specialized training, but if you can pull it off, you'll become much harder to take down".
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: ???
  • Deconstructed: Alice can't split her attention perfectly between close and far enemies, so if multiple enemies attack her at once from different distances, she will still be overwhelmed.
  • Reconstructed: Being overwhelmed by numbers is a concern for anyone regardless of how they fight or what weapons they use, but Alice's choice to cover both melee and ranged combat still makes her harder to counter under normal circumstances.
  • Played for Laughs: ???
  • Played for Drama: ???
