Basic Trope: A funny moment in an otherwise dramatic work, usually to give it some levity.

  • Straight: The Troper's Tale is mostly a dramatic murder mystery story. However, one scene has the lead characters get involved in a humorous Slapstick sequence.
  • Exaggerated: The Troper's Tale is taken entirely seriously, until a scene where it's revealed that the supposed murder victim just had a Disney Death, and the entire film gets Denser and Wackier from there.
  • Downplayed: The Troper's Tale is a mostly serious drama, but there's a funny moment at one point where a character tells a joke.
  • Justified: The group had been in serious tension, so they need something humorous to break it.
  • Inverted: Comedic Work, Serious Scene
  • Subverted: The Slapstick sequence seems funny... until someone actually gets injured.
  • Double Subverted: They were only pretending to be injured, and the scene goes back to comedy afterwards.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted:
    • The Troper's Tale is a dramedy to begin with.
    • There are no funny scenes in The Troper's Tale.
  • Enforced:
    • The writers of The Troper's Tale are worried that the audience might feel Angst Aversion or even think of the story as Too Bleak, Stopped Caring, so they put in some funny moments to give the work some levity.
    • The work is a Very Special Episode of an otherwise lighthearted series (or is otherwise a Darker and Edgier entry in something known for being much lighter in general). Some comedic scenes are put in to prevent the work from being too much darker than usual.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: One of the characters wants to lighten the mood, so they start telling some jokes.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: The characters realize that now is not a good time to be joking, so they remain serious.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "The Troper's Tale is a pretty serious movie overall, but that scene with the Slapstick was hilarious."
