Basic Trope: A scene where it's revealed that the audience is actually witnessing an in-series production such as a Show Within a Show.

  • Straight: The show "The Adventures of Alice and Bob" has an opening scene in its first episode where Alice and Bob are in a battle with Emperor Evulz and his mooks. However, the camera zooms out to show that they were on the set of a Show Within a Show, and their director says "Cut, that's a wrap!"
  • Exaggerated:
    • It isn't revealed that "The Adventures of Alice and Bob" was actually a Show Within a Show the whole time until the Series Finale.
    • All of the episodes of "The Adventures of Alice and Bob" have this happen.
    • Some time after the camera reveals it's an in-series production, it zooms out again to show that it's a Show Within a Show Within A Show.
  • Downplayed: The episode opens with an intense action sequence with Alice, Bob and Emperor Evulz, but this is soon after revealed to just be an Imagine Spot.
  • Justified: "The Adventures of Alice and Bob" is about a group of actors who regularly take part in shows like these, so it's understandable for the episode to begin with them showing their job.
  • Inverted: A scene involves what is expected to be a Show Within a Show, but it's revealed that it was actually what was happening in the episode.
  • Subverted: The opening scene appears to be a set of a Show Within a Show... then suddenly Emperor Evulz and his mooks attack the television studio.
  • Double Subverted: However, the camera zooms out again, revealing it was another Show Within a Show.
  • Parodied: The Show Within a Show that Alice and Bob are in is filled with Bad "Bad Acting" and other types of Stylistic Suck, but it still attempts to be a surprise when it's revealed that it wasn't actually happening.
  • Zig-Zagged: Alice and Bob are both actors and adventurers - some scenes with them in intense adventures are revealed to be some kind of Show Within a Show, but others aren't.
  • Averted: There are no events revealed to be in-series productions.
  • Enforced: The creators wanted to add a Fake Action Prologue.
  • Lampshaded: "For a second, I thought we were battling Emperor Evulz and his mooks for real, Bob!"
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "I thought this would start epically."
