Basic Trope: A character has a Meaningful Name that they end up living up to.
- Straight: Lionel Moonstone turns into a werelion one day.
- Exaggerated: Even people with normal, unassuming names get subject to this - for instance, a character named Gideon becomes a lumberjack just because his name means "feller of trees".
- Downplayed: A character whose name is Leo Smith becomes a werelion. While it's still a coincidence that his first name is Latin for "lion", Leo is still a relatively common name.
- Justified:
- Lionel's parents are werelions, and named him accordingly - he just didn't become a werelion until his Dangerous 16th Birthday.
- Simply put, "Lionel Moonstone" is just a name, and it's only a coincidence that he happened to live up to it.
- Inverted: ???
- Subverted:
- Lionel is suddenly bitten by a strange lion while venturing outside, but nothing happens to him.
- We meet Lionel and discover that he is a werelion. Later on, it is revealed that he was formerly called Dick and changed his name to Lionel.
- Double Subverted:
- Until the next full moon, anyway.
- Lionel changed his name before he was bitten.
- Parodied:
- Lionel actively tries to live up to his name by turning himself into a werelion... and is dismayed when he becomes a werechicken.
- Someone's parents name him "Will Definitely Become a Werebeast One Day" and are shocked when it really happens.
- Zig-Zagged: ???
- Averted:
- Nobody lives up to their name.
- Lionel was either born a werelion, or legally changed his name when he became one, so he had no need to live up to his name.
- Enforced: "A Meaningful Name would be interesting, but we don't want to get into the implications that the character changed their name once the event happened."
- Lampshaded: ???
- Invoked: Lionel realizes how fitting his name would be for a werelion, so he searches for a way to become one.
- Exploited: ???
- Defied:
- Lionel is aware that with a name like his, he's going to become a werelion, so he avoids becoming one.
- Lionel changes his name to prevent it from coming true.
- Discussed: "Your name really is Lionel Moonstone?" "Yeah, kinda weird that I lived up to it so much."
- Conversed: "I wonder what Lionel Moonstone's parents expected when they named him that."
Back to Prophetic Name. You know, I wonder if the original trope had any idea what it was gonna be when it got that name.
