Basic Trope: Someone hangs a poster or picture to hide damage to the wall.
- Straight: Bob accidentally breaks a hole in his bedroom wall. To hide it from his parents, he hangs a poster over the hole.
- Exaggerated:
- The hole in the wall is larger than the poster.
- There are multiple holes in the wall, each covered with an awkwardly placed poster.
- Downplayed: The damage isn't that bad, and is where one could reasonably hang a poster.
- Justified:
- Bob knows he'll get grounded if his parents found the hole.
- Bob can't afford to repair the wall, and just doesn't want to see the hole.
- Inverted: Bob tries to hide an embarrassing poster by smashing a hole in it, and the wall behind it.
- Subverted: Bob's mother comes to his room and sees a suspiciously out of place poster. She removes it and the wall behind it is perfectly fine.
- Double Subverted: But the real hole was behind a different poster.
- Parodied: The wall is almost completely destroyed. Bob hangs a tiny poster on one of the few remaining parts of the wall, and nobody seems to notice the damage.
- Zig-Zagged: There are multiple posters on the wall. Some hide holes and others don't.
- Averted:
- There isn't a hole in the wall.
- Bob doesn't try to hide the hole in the wall.
- Enforced: The hole is actually the result of an accident on set, but to repair the set properly, they'd have to shut down filming. So the writers have to write the hole into the story for the rest of the season - and they need to cover it up so the area behind the set isn't visible.
- Lampshaded: The poster is a sign that says "There is not a hole behind this poster."
- Invoked: Bob intentionally smashes the hole in the wall, and immediately covers it up.
- Exploited: Alice finds out about the hole, and blackmails Bob not to tell his parents.
- Defied: After breaking the hole in the wall, Bob immediately arranges to have it repaired.
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: ???
- Implied: There is an awkwardly placed poster on Bob's bedroom wall, and he gets nervous when his parents go to look at it.
