Playing With / Not Used to Freedom

Go To

Basic Trope: When someone is too used to having limited freedom to be able to function outside.

  • Straight: Alice has never left home without her parents, and therefore doesn't know how to do things like use public transportation or buy something from a store.
  • Exaggerated: Alice has never left home at all, and doesn't recognize everyday objects like trees or cars.
  • Downplayed: Alice knows how to act outside of home, but not how to hold down a job or live on her own.
  • Justified: Alice's parents are very overbearing and never allowed her how to learn how to do anything on her own, resulting in her growing up to be a Womanchild who doesn't know how to take care of herself.
  • Inverted: Alice is a Satisfied Street Rat who doesn't know how to act in a structured environment.
  • Subverted: Alice looks like she is leaving home for the first time on her own, but has actually snuck out many times in the past.
  • Deconstructed: Alice's parents die, and she's left up the creek without a paddle as a result due to her lack of self-sufficiency.
  • Reconstructed: Places exist for people like Alice to seek help, unusual as that may be. It will take a while, but rehabilitation is possible.
