Basic Trope: Character does not have an apparent mouth, whether they don't actually have one or it is covered up by another one of their features.

  • Straight: Alice is depicted without a mouth.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed: Mouth Stitched Shut
  • Justified:
  • Inverted: Too Many Mouths
  • Subverted: Alice appears without a mouth, but then removes a skin-colored mask she's been wearing...
  • Double Subverted: ...To reveal that she really doesn't have a mouth underneath.
  • Parodied: Alice only communicates in muffled noises.
  • Averted: Alice has a mouth, like all other characters.
  • Lampshaded: "What? How come Alice doesn't have a mouth?"
  • Enforced: "Mouths are really hard to animate, and Alice is more of a character than just her mouth. Let's just not depict it altogether!"
  • Invoked: Wipe That Smile Off Your Face
  • Exploited: Since she has no mouth, Alice doesn't have to brush her teeth.
  • Discussed: "How come she doesn't have a mouth like every other person does?" "I believe her having no mouth gives her an air of mystery, don't you think?"
  • Conversed: "Okay, seeing Alice without a mouth is weird. What were the producers thinking?"
  • Implied: Alice's lower face (or her face altogether) was never shown on-screen, but she was never heard speaking either.
  • Deconstructed:
    • No mouth, no ability to speak, meaning Alice has difficulties communicating with others.
    • No mouth, no ability to eat or drink, meaning Alice suffers from hunger and thirst.
  • Reconstructed: In turn, she becomes a master of handling sign language and various other non-speaking coded languages in order to be able to communicate secrets with other people seamlessly.
  • Plotted A Good Waste: Alice's mouth was removed by Emperor Evulz's curse, and she must set off on an adventure to find the cure.
