Basic Trope: A small pet that grows into a monster.
- Straight: Alice gets a new pet small puppy and is told to not feed it between meals. One day she gets sad about how small the puppy is and gives it a bit of her burger. By the next day, the puppy has grown into the size of an elephant.
- Exaggerated: Alice adopts a new dog a small scrawny little chihuahua with a big head that's always shivering. Before Alice heads home she is told to never overfeed her new pet. But when Alice gets home she gives her feeble friend a giant stake five times bigger than him. The little dog eats the stake up at incredible speed and grows into a giant mountain size monster with a behemoth size body and a small head.
- Downplayed: When Alice feeds her new pet puppy St. Bernard it grows into the size of a small horse.
- Justified: The pet is part Kaiju and will always grow as long as it has enough to eat.
- Inverted: When Alive gets home and overfeeds her pet she starts to grow and become the monster instead.
- Subverted: Alice adopts a large horse-size St. Bernard and is told not to overfeed him. When she overfeeds him her new friend shrinks down to a scrawny chihuahua size puppy.
- Double Subverted: But when she stops feeding her pet he grows back to his original size and grows even farther.
- Parodied: When Alice overfeeds her new pet dog he inflates into the size of a helpless hot air balloon.
- Zig-Zagged: Alice's new pet grows from overeating but by the next day he's back to normal. Then the same thing happens again the next day with the same result.
- Averted: The pet doesn't change size no matter how much Alice is feeding him.
- Enforced: An adaptation or remake of a work that had the plot in the source material.
- Lampshaded: "Your dog grows from overeating as well?"
- Invoked: The government commissions Alice to train and feed her pet dog in order to use it as a weapon to fight the neighboring Kaiju
- Exploited: The giant dog needs constant nutrition to move and survive so Alice leads the creature away from civilization in order for him to calm down and not make destruction.
- Defied: Alice learns to not overfeed her friend.
- Discussed: "Can you tell Mr why my new pet grows like this?"
- Conversed: "A nice little cautionary tale about why you should follow the rules.
- Deconstructed: When Alice's pet dog gets too big his body undergoes the Square-Cube Law and can't move as good as he needs to.
