Basic Trope: A sizable number of people get hypnotized by someone or something, usually for evil purposes.
- Straight:
- Dr. Kelvin Evuls uses a device to hypnotize a crowd of 20 people in order to turn them into slaves for his layer.
- Dr. Evuls broadcasts a program on television that turns the entire city into crazed maniacs out to kill the heroes.
- Exaggerated:
- Dr. Evuls manages to get his device to brainwash the entire world, thus obtaining world domination.
- Dr. Evuls uses his powers to turn everyone into an exact clone of himself.
- Downplayed:
- Dr. Evuls only manages to hypnotize two people.
- Dr. Evuls manages to hypnotize the entire city, but only in a way that makes people think of him more highly, and is unable to get them to do what he wants.
- Dr. Evuls airs an ad that persuades people to vote for him in the cities next election.
- Zig-Zagged:
- Dr. Evuls is only able to hypnotize half of the intended group size.
- Dr. Evuls successfully hypnotizes the entire city... but everyone is only under his control from 7 PM to 1 AM.
- Averted: Dr. Evuls' device starts activating but is destroyed by the hero at the last minute.
- Subverted: Dr. Evuls looks like he is going to hypnotize everyone, but instead surrenders and deactivates his powers.
- Double Subverted: ...Only for him to reactivate his powers when no one is paying attention, and hypnotizing the entire city.
- Inverted: Dr. Evuls' device ends up malfunctioning and hypnotizing him instead.
- Parodied: Dr. Evuls hypnotizes the entire world... into performing a conga dance!
