Basic Trope: Your average mook becomes an icon of the franchise.

  • Straight: In Tales of Troperia I, the most common enemy were the Stinky Goblins. People liked them so much that they have become a mainstay for the series since then, appearing in all games and having their own merch and plenty of variants.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed:
  • Justified: Emperor Evulz likes Stinky Goblins. So unlike more experimental mooks who appear only in one game, they always stay on his ranks throughout the entire series.
  • Inverted: People hated Stinky Goblins so much that they have been retconned out of the canon and haven’t appeared in any game since.
  • Subverted: Despite being so popular and expected as a mascot, Stinky Goblins do not appear after Tales of Troperia I, either in the series, or in merchandising.
  • Double Subverted: When the series gets rebooted, the Stinky Goblins become the official mascot.
  • Parodied: Hiro ends on a “Stinky Goblin festival” in which balloons, costumes and prizes are all Goblin-themed.
  • Zig Zagged:
  • Averted:
  • Enforced:
    • The Stinky Goblins were created specifically to be the mascot of the series.
    • Being a Creator's Pet, the Stinky Goblins nooks are forcibly made the mascot of the series, despite being massively hated by fans of Tales of Tropera.
