Basic Trope: Late game items, spells or mons that are far more powerful than anything available before.

  • Straight: In Tales of Troperia XVI, party member Blama learns the spell Omega Blast in the penultimate dungeon. Omega Blast deals twice as much damage as any other spell Blama can learn up to that point.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Blama learns Omega Blast immediately before facing the Final Boss.
    • Omega Blast is the single most damaging attack of any kind in the game.
  • Downplayed:
    • Omega Blast is learned about 3/4 of the way through the game.
    • Omega Blast is the strongest spell, but only slightly so.
  • Justified: Blama nearly acquired the item he needs to learn Omega Blast much earlier, but it was stolen by The Dragon who the party only caught up to in the penultimate dungeon.
  • Inverted: A Disc-One Nuke spell.
  • Subverted:
    • Omega Blast is a Slap-on-the-Wrist Nuke, looking cool but not dealing any more damage than other standard spells.
    • The item needed to learn Omega Blast can also be acquired from a Optional Boss earlier in the game as a Rare Random Drop, allowing access to it much sooner.
  • Double Subverted:
    • ...but it gets stronger every time it is used. After some grinding, it becomes the most damaging attack in the game.
    • ...but its power is keyed to the caster's level, so it isn't as strong until late in the game.
  • Parodied:
  • Zig-Zagged: Omega Blast is the most damaging spell in the game and cannot be learned until the penultimate dungeon, but its power is based on the number of enemies killed by it, so you have to spend a lot of time grinding to actually bring it up to full power and if you just spent that same time doing standard Level Grinding, many other characters and abilities will be nearly as strong anyway.
  • Averted: All spells are learned prior to the final 1/4 of the game.
  • Enforced: The game is based on a book in which Blama learns the spell in the penultimate dungeon. While it would be more useful to learn earlier, the devs decided to stay true to the source material and only made it available then.
  • Lampshaded: After Blama uses Omega Blast for the first time, fellow party member Quirby comments "Holy Shit! That would have been useful to have a long time ago!"
  • Exploited:
  • Defied:
  • Discussed:
  • Conversed:
  • Deconstructed: Blama can learn Omega Blast much earlier...but doing so requires undertaking a side quest involving Human Sacrifice. While doing it makes the rest of the game much easier, it also permanently lowers the party's Morality Meter, locking them out of the Golden Ending.
  • Reconstructed:
  • Played for Laughs:
  • Played for Drama:
