Basic Trope: After hearing or witnessing something particularly shocking, a character's jaw opens to a wider degree than what should be physically possible.
- Straight: After being told of an outstanding payment by an evil IRS agent, Bob's jaw opens 3 feet downwards.
- Exaggerated: After being told he's The Chosen One meant to go on a long journey to save the world, Bob's jaw immediately crashes through the floor.
- Taking it further, it crashes into the ground beneath and through several layers of the earth's crust, causing its close proximity to the heat of the planet's molten core to painfully burn Bob's chin. He retracts his jaw quickly and, once it's back in place, gingerly rubs the blistered, singed area.
- Downplayed: After being told of an somehwat embarrasing incident his Best Friend endured, Bob's jaw opens several inches over a few seconds.
